This is Katoki’s redesign of the Wing Gundam, if it had been featured in ‘Endless Waltz’ and there wasn’t a Wing Zero yet (the more advanced version).
Basically, this is a “what if” kit, which is a bit of a hit and miss design wise, as it reuses the entire body of the Wing Zero EW but with different/more vivid colors and new, more technical looking wings instead of the more organic ‘angel’ wings.
Instead of the Twin Buster rifles, it has the more classic version with its triple canister loading mechanism.
This version features a shield and two pods attachable to the arms which hold three additional canisters each (for the gun).
The legs feature sliding panels when articulated.
The wings have a wide range of movement at the shoulders but the wings themselves have only a center flap that moves slightly, otherwise they don’t do anything besides look pretty.
The cockpit opens and on each side of the head there is a compartment that opens to reveal a small gatling gun.
It comes with a tiny blue Heero Yuy and a single beam saber hilt with two green beam sabers.
The entire model transforms into ‘birdmode’ like the classic wing.
The inner frame uses the premolded MS joint system which at this point in Bandai’s development is far better than the first versions, but it’s still prone to loosening.
There’s nothing wrong with this kit, it does everything it’s supposed to and it looks quite nice.
If you already have the RG Wing Zero, I’d suggest getting the much newer and more advanced RG Wing Gundam (without the ‘EW’) instead of this, which features much more advanced and expressive wings, a more competent transformation, better articulation and a better and sturdier frame.
In the end, however, it’s up to you to decide what looks better and what you’d like to display.
