Never use pressure or pry anything with this - It is hardened, which means it's brittle and will snap if it's subjected to leverage. It is intended for 'soft' materials, like plastics. You can score hobby-grade metals with it, but it's really not advisable.

Carving needles are for freehand scribing, making a guide line and good for making small dimples/divots/holes, such as marking pla-plate or for guide holes.

You can technically wield it with your fingers, but you should buy a tool with a vise, clamp or a chuck to lock it in, such as DSPIAE's own clamp holding handle, which I also recommend (triangular with magnet cap, doesn't roll off the table).
